I was pretty new to the BGP family and had stopped by Winterland to check out the sound check. Belushi hit the stage doing back flips to land in front of Bill Graham. I spent most of that NYE at Oakland Coliseum with Journey, Blondie and Stoneground. I left to arrive back in S.F. in time to do midnight at Winterland, taking what turned out to be my last acid hit as I walked through the front doors.
Many hours later I recall I was still at the front of the stage as Bill thanked the crowd and said good morning. Breakfast for 5,000 was under way. I was hoping the band would come back for one more song. As the crowd drifted out I made my way out the side door from the darkened theater to the sunny morning that was dawning outside.
