I was there and part of the cone head group. I remember getting tickets through the lottery at the Tower Records store in Serramonte, on Geary and one other store, was it Pacific Stereo? The record store gave out numbers for each individual store to buy either two or four tickets the day before. Then you had to go back to the store to see if your number was drawn. We had folks go to all the stores to see what numbers were drawn to purchase tickets.
I remember my eyes went blurry when the person from the record store came out with a list of what numbers were drawn.
I was positioned at the Serramonte store. This is the first time I was in a lottery for tickets. I remember my eyes went blurry when the person from the record store came out with a list of what numbers were drawn. It took a good 20 seconds to see my number which was number four on the list to purchase tickets. I screamed and yelled and high-fived the folks in line.
We had a coordinator at home, which was our switchboard, where we called in from the different stores to see if everybody hit and all our friends got in. We were very strategic about it. It worked out perfectly and my whole group got in. We were very fortunate. I met my friend Scott in line buying tickets and we have been friends ever since. I met many friends in line buying tickets for all different type of shows. I always will be thankful for that. Nothing like a Grateful Dead show at Winterland.
